Workshops + Courses
Our forester offers timber harvest workshops to help those certified by the Pennsylvania Sustainable Forestry Initiative satisfy their continuing education requirement. These workshops include information on erosion control and the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program.
Our forester serves as a facilitator for the core-level Environmental Logging Course of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative of Pennsylvania, which covers best management practices and harvest planning.
There is a nominal fee for these workshops and courses, many of which are held at the District’s headquarters and in the adjacent woods of Ann Rudd Saxman Nature Park.
Information on upcoming events is posted on the District’s website – www.wcdpa.com – and announced in area newspapers.

On the grounds of the District’s headquarters, an arboretum features more than 70 different tree varieties. A variety of native perennials and shrubs also are planted on the grounds.
More than 15 different kinds of Pennsylvania hardwoods, obtained from local contractors, are used for wall surfaces and furniture in the District’s headquarters and available for viewing during regular business hours.
