The Envirothon is a hands-on academic competition for high school students.
Student teams study forests forestry, soils and land use, wildlife, and aquatic ecology, as well as environmental issues in preparation for this annual event. The competition begins at the county level. The Westmoreland County Envirothon is held in April at one of the county parks.
Winners of the Westmoreland County Envirothon go on to compete at the state level. Winners of the state Envirothon compete at the international level.
